HELLO, and welcome to Poems of Kindness by Tasha and Ken.

This site is devoted to poetry which speaks to our shared humanity.  Here you will find our own poems of kindness and compassion,  and also some written by the great poets.  We hope you enjoy them.

It is easy to forget, sometimes, that we are all in this together…

I am writing to thank you for collecting the kindness poems you have posted on this lovely site. My 87 year old mother, a life long lover of poetry, is living with Alzheimer’s disease and recently moved into a Nursing Home. To help ease the transition and provide some comfort, I am leading a weekly poetry group and tomorrow will be our 3rd session.

Each week has a theme (the first was “Cutting Loose”, the second “Spring”) so far determined simply at my whim. Last week a member requested to read something by Sylvia Plath, who she had never read, but who she knew because they had gone to Smith College at the same time. The fun of leading the group is I get to read a lot of new poetry, and by looking up Sylvia Plath I discovered a poem called simply “Kindness” (copied below). I knew I had found the theme for the week.

I was already familiar with Naomi Shabib Nye, and so am using that one, but then I started an internet search and so came upon your site. I am using 8 poems from your collection – and I am so pleased to have found them!

So thank you once again, for creating such a beautiful site in our harsh world, and for having such excellent taste in poetry.

I hope kindness flows your way.

    Kindness by Sylvia Plath

    Kindness glides about my house.
Dame Kindness, she is so nice!
The blue and red jewels of her rings smoke
    In the windows, the mirrors
    Are filling with smiles.

What is so real as the cry of a child?
A rabbit’s cry may be wilder
    But it has no soul.
Sugar can cure everything, so Kindness says.
    Sugar is a necessary fluid,

    Its crystals a little poultice.
    O kindness, kindness
    Sweetly picking up pieces!
    My Japanese silks, desperate butterflies,
May be pinned any minute, anesthetized.

And here you come, with a cup of tea
    Wreathed in steam.
    The blood jet is poetry,
    There is no stopping it.
You hand me two children, two roses.

  11. Basically you will be writing 8 pages everyday, each
page with 250 words. The aim of the diet would be to keep the daily
calorie count below 1500. And perhaps you’ll be able
to even do part from the work yourself.
